Effects of Carbamazepine on the P-gp and CYP3A Expression Correlated with PXR or NF-κB Activity in the bEnd.3 Cells.

•We demonstrated a novel possible specific mechanism of drug-resistant epilepsy in vitro.•P-gp and CYP3A were elevated incubated with L-glutamate, CBZ or both in bEnd.3 cells at various concentrations and times.•The expression of P-gp and CYP3A was regulated by PXR or NF-κB p65.•The functional activity of P-gp was validated by the Rho123 accumulation assay.
