Molecular basis of Gender Dysphoria: androgen and estrogen receptor interaction.

•Estrogen receptors in humans are implicated in gender development.•In somatically males, interaction between the ERβ and AR is necessary for a typical development of gender.•In somatically males, specific genotype interactions of α and β ER and AR decrease the odds ratio of gender dysphoria.•In somatically males, specific genotype interactions between the ERβ and the AR increase the odds ratio of gender dysphoria.•In somatically females, specific genotypes of α and β ERs are implicated in an independent manner in gender dysphoria.
