HPLC characterization of molluscicidal component of Tamarindus indica and its mode of action on nervous tissue of Lymnaea acuminata.

•Saponin is identified as active component in Tamarindus indica by HPLC method.•T. indica bark is potential source of molluscicides against snail Lymnaea acuminata.•It inhibits the key enzyme AChE, ACP and ALP activity.•It causes mortality by affecting the brain tissue of the snail L. acuminata.
