摘要
•Nowadays, patients undergoing cardiac surgery are increasingly older and present to surgery with multiple risk factors.•In these settings, cardio-pulmonary bypass may increase postoperative morbidity and mortality.•Indeed, the well-known systemic inflammatory response following on-pump cardiac surgery, with its possible sequelae, may play a role in determining postoperative outcomes•In the last decades many efforts have been made to avoid cardio-pulmonary bypass or at least mitigate its detrimental effects•Enoximone modulates hemodynamics and phlogosis; hence exherting postoperative effects on organ function, and endothelial integrity•Consistently, our results confirm postoperative outcomes amelioration among cardiac surgery patients receiving Enoximone.
