•62 cases of PCA over 7 years from an anesthesia database of 122,289 anesthetics•Overall incidence of PCA from all causes was 5.07 per 10,000 anesthetics.•Incidence of anesthesia-related PCA was 0.74 per 10,000.•Anesthesia-related PCA were associated with improved survival.•It is extremely important to identify modifiable factors associated with PCA.
