Short communication: Diagnosis of lung cancer increases during the annual southeast Asian haze periods

•There are few studies on direct health impact of the annual Southeast Asian haze.•This study reports that the annual haze is associated with increased presentation of lung cancer.•A larger proportion of lung cancer diagnoses during the haze periods presented with acute symptoms.•Like other Asian studies, lung cancers in Malaysia are diagnosed at a younger age and in non-smokers.
