The Effect of Simethicone on Postoperative Ileus in Patients Undergoing Colorectal Surgery (SPOT), A Randomized Controlled Trial.

•Ileus after colorectal surgery presents clinical challenges and contributes to increased morbidity and length of stay.•Current medications used to reduce rates of post operative ileus generally carry negative side effects and increased cost.•Simethicone is a well tolerated anti-flatulence medication that reduces post operative ileus after gynecological surgery.•This RCT showed that simethicone has no effect on post operative ileus or abdominal gas pain after colorectal surgery.
