Assessing neural tuning for object perception in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder with multivariate pattern analysis of fMRI data.

•Abnormal visual perception exists in schizophrenia and, likely, bipolar disorder•Neural processing abnormalities underlying those deficits are not well understood•We used multivariate analyses of fMRI data to assess patients' visual processing•We establish for the first time that such methods work well in these patient groups•The analyses did not show group differences in neural processing of visual stimuli
