Comparison of carboplatin versus cisplatin in the treatment of paediatric extracranial malignant germ cell tumours: A report of the Malignant Germ Cell International Consortium.

•The analysis presented here is the underlying rationale for the newly opened Children's Oncology Group germ cell tumour trial, AGCT1531.•This non-randomized comparison suggests that in children with germ cell tumors treated with carboplatin, outcomes do not appear to be inferior to outcomes for children treated with cisplatin.•The difference between these results and the prior disappointing experience using carboplatin to treat men with carboplatin is that the pediatric dose is significantly higher and dosed on a more frequent basis.
