PHACTR1 genotype predicts coronary artery disease in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia.

•More than half of the study subjects carried the rs12526453 G allele of phosphatase and actin regulator 1 gene.•This polymorphism is associated with 50% lower odds of coronary events in familial hypercholesterolemia.•An increased average number of cardiovascular disease events was observed among the noncarriers.
