Upregulation of PSMB8 and Cathepsins in the Human Brains of Dementia with Lewy Bodies.

•Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is one of the leading forms of dementia, and aggregated proteins are a pathological hallmark of DLB.•Proteasome has declined activity in the development of DLB.•PSMB8, an inducible beta subunit of proteasome has elevated expression in DLB.•Lysosomal cathepsin B and D have elevated expression.•Elevated cathepsin B activity cannot amend the decrease of proteasome activity, leading to protein aggregation.
