Omnidirectional shear horizontal wave based tomography for damage detection in a metallic plate with the compensation for the transfer functions of transducer.

•Diagnostic images of the damaged plates are built using omnidirectional SH0 waves.•Transfer function models for the magnetostrictive patch transducer are developed.•The models are used to compensate for the frequency-dependence effects in imaging.•Omnidirectional SH0 waves do not require additional dispersion compensation.•The compensation for the transducer transfer functions improves the image quality.
