摘要

•Neural respiratory drive (NRD) is inferred from diaphragm electromyography (EMGdi).•Parasternal intercostal EMG (EMGpara) may be a non-invasive alternative to EMGdi.•Activation of the pectoralis muscles during cycling contaminates the EMGpara signal.•EMGpara is not a viable surrogate for EMGdi and NRD during upright cycle exercise.
