Antimicrobial susceptibility of enterococci recovered from healthy cattle, pigs and chickens in nine EU countries (EASSA Study) to critically important antibiotics.

•A European-wide resistance monitoring programme (EASSA) is presented.•Enterococci from healthy animals were tested for antimicrobial susceptibilities.•Both clinical breakpoints and epidemiological cut-off values were applied.•Resistance to erythromycin and tetracycline was generally high.•Clinical resistance to six critically important antibiotics was absent or low.
