Intermediate prognosis in metastatic germ cell tumours-outcome and prognostic factors.

•Outcome of patients with intermediate prognosis improved and is currently associated with a 5-year overall survival rate of 89%.•In case of refractory disease current patients received more frequently high-dose chemotherapy and treatment beyond second line.•Lactate dehydrogenase cut-off value of 2 upper limit of normal and alpha-fetoprotein levels of 6200 IU/ml pre-chemotherapy were prognosticators.•Trials with de-intensification of chemotherapy for some IPGCT patients are warranted.
