Morphological and histological characters of penile organization in eleven species of molossid bats.

•The molossid penis has three types of erectile tissue around the urethra.•Similarities in glans morphology were shared by Eumops species and N. laticaudatus.•Interspecific similarities in glans penis occurred in Molossus and Eumops species.•In E. perotis the baculum is probably under selection.•The corpora cavernosa is predominantly dorsal in penile glans with baculum.
