•The BPH/5 preeclamptic-like mouse exhibits an overall reduction in decidual macrophages.•Loss of decidual macrophages is concurrent with a decrease in the immunosuppressive cytokine IL-10 and increased iNOS.•Loss of immune suppression in BPH/5 decidua is associated with increases in activated T cells.
