摘要

•FDA-approved HIV assays were successfully modified for dried blood spots (DBS) use.•p24 detection using the DBS protocol is less sensitive than the plasma protocol.•DBS-modified screening and supplemental assays can be used in a diagnostic algorithm.•The DBS-algorithm correctly identified specimens collected during surveillance.
