摘要

•Red-legged partridges are highly susceptible to WNV infection and disease.•Non-structural NS1 protein from WNV failed to elicit detectable antibodies in red-legged partridges.•When recombinant NS1 from WNV was administered to red legged partridges, WNV caused a more severe disease.•This effect is described here for the first time, and it has not been observed in mice subjected to an equivalent treatment.
