•Injection of ORF008L (myristoylated membrane protein, MMP) vaccine offered high protection.•TLR3, MyD88, Mx, ISG15, PKR, MHC class I, Fas, Fas ligand, caspase9 and 3 expressed high in vaccine group.•The inflammatory cytokines (IL1β, IL8 and TNFα) were not enhanced in the ORF008L vaccinated group.
