•Study presents results of metal leaching from different components of mobile phones.•TCLP, WET and SPLP tests were applied, WET deduced to be the most aggressive test.•PWBs leachates show highest metal concentration compared to plastics and batteries.•RDA explains 34.66% variability, mobile part and protocol act as major contributors.
