•Acan-daf-2 was cloned from Angiostrongylus cantonensis and was characterised.•Acan-DAF-2 possessed the typical features of insulin receptor.•Acan-DAF-2 could negatively regulated Ce-DAF-16 through nuclear/cytosolic translocation in C. elegans.•Acan-DAF-2 could regulate lifespan, stress resistance and dauer formation in C. elegans.
