•Transfer of liquid biopsy into clinical routine so far fails.•One reason is a missing standard for blood processing and storage.•EDTA blood drawing tubes work well but cannot be stored or shipped to remote laboratory.•PAXgene® Blood ccfDNA tubes allow storage at room temperature for up to 7days.•7-day storage in these tubes does not change quantity/quality of cell-free plasma DNA
