Antigenic variation of LaSota and genotype VII Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and their efficacy against challenge with velogenic NDV.

•The antigenic variation between NDV LaSota and genotype VII aSG10 was analysed.•Major antigenic difference exists between two viruses under a single serotype.•The aSG10 strain had significantly higher efficacy than LaSota vaccine.•The results are valuable to control genotype VII NDV infections in field.
