This work focuses on the use of the substitution modeling techniques and their combination with metaheuristics for the rapid optimal sizing of (not only) CMOS analog circuits. The case of the radial basis function substitution model and the particle swarm optimization metaheuristic is considered. The objective is to show advantages of the use of such metamodeling techniques inside an optimization loop. We consider two CMOS analog circuits (four objective functions), and we show that such an approach allows obtaining optimal sizing, similarly to the conventional in-loop optimization technique but within a reduced computation time.
