Strict Very Fast Decision Tree: a memory conservative algorithm for data stream mining.

•A Novel algorithm based on the VFDT, called SVFDT, is proposed for data stream mining.•The proposed algorithm makes assumptions about statistics observed to limit tree growth.•The SVFDT was compared on experimental tests carried out on benchmark datasets.•Predictive performance was maintained while consuming significantly less memory.•Possible applications for this algorithm are on ensembles and low-memory environments.
