Situational driving anger, driving performance and allocation of visual attention

•Effects of situational anger on driving were studied using a driving simulator experiment.•Angry drivers drove in more risky styles compared with emotion-neutral drivers.•Angry drivers scanned a narrower area and applied a more heuristic processing style.•Increased driving experience did not better prepare drivers for the adverse influences of situational anger.
