High Dynamic Range Displays improve the realism of motion cues in night driving simulators.

•Motion perception is impaired at night, with an impact on road safety.•Night driving simulators need to reproduce this impaired vision.•We have compared the performance of usual vs. High Dynamic Range Displays with this respect.•A driving simulation study shows the benefit of a HDR technology for motion perception at night.•This benefit appears with motorcycles, not for cars.
