Antidepressant activity of vorinostat is associated with amelioration of oxidative stress and inflammation in a corticosterone-induced chronic stress model in mice

•Vorinostat ameliorated corticosterone induced anxiety/depressive-like behavior.•Vorinostat mitigated HPA axis dysregulation, oxidative stress and inflammation.•The effects of vorinostat were comparable to standard antidepressant, fluoxetine.•Antidepressant effects were related to modulation of hippocampal NF-κB, COX-2, p-JNK and HDAC2 levels.
