Bat algorithm based maximum power point tracking for photovoltaic system under partial shading conditions

•We propose a global Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique for photovoltaic systems using the Bat Algorithm (BA).•The proposed technique is implemented into field programmable gate array (FPGA).•BA-based MPPT presents very high performances under uniform and partial shading conditions.
