802.11ax: The Coming New Wlan System With More Than 4x Mac Throughput Enhancement

This paper introduces a new wireless LAN (WLAN) amendment to IEEE 802.11 WLAN specification. The new amendment is named High Efficiency WLAN (HEW), or IEEE 802.11ax. The new amendment is targeting dense WLAN deployments and deals with known WLAN issues including random channel access and the short packet length of most services. IEEE 802.11ax is intended to operate in the bands extending from 1 GHz to 6 GHz and increases the per-user throughput by 4 times compared to existing WLAN standards operating in the same band.
