•We leverage ideas from meta-learning to present a technique for ranking pre-processing operators depending on their impact on the final result of the data analysis.•We show the benefits of our approach by implementing a tool that is capable of automatically recommending pre-processing operators to the user.•We show experiments that demonstrate the effectiveness and quality of our approach.
