Electroconvulsive therapy and subsequent epilepsy in patients with affective disorders: A register-based Danish cohort study.

•ECT was associated with a slightly higher rate of epilepsy in patients with affective disorders below 40 years.•In patients below 60 years, the rate of epilepsy seemed to be highest more than 3 years after last treatment with ECT.•In patients above 60 years, ECT was associated with a lower rate of epilepsy.•The associations might be subject to residual confounding from risk factors related to ECT.
