摘要
•GSTU23 methionine oxidation is the major oxidative modification at lower H2O2 concentration.•A disulfide bond protects active site cysteines and methionines from overoxidation.•Oxidized GSTU23 is redox regulated by methionine sulfoxide reductases and glutaredoxin.•To compensate the drop in kcat at a higher H2O2 concentration, a favourable enzyme:substrate complex is formed.•X-ray structures of oxidized GSTU23 show methionine oxidation and local unfolding around Cys110.
