A semi-automatic and an automatic segmentation algorithm to remove the internal organs from live pig CT images

•Two new techniques to segment internal organs from live pig CT images are presented.•The proposed semi-automatic segmentation is based on Dynamic Programming.•The proposed automatic segmentation is based on distance maps and morphological operators.•The automatic method is faster, while the semi-automatic one is more accurate.•Computation time is reduced from hours (manual segmentation) to seconds.
