Agent-Based Modelling of Military Communications on the Roman Frontier

This paper describes a simulation of Roman military frontier communication systems. The aim is to elucidate how signalling installations, hypothesised on archaeological and textual evidence, could have been used, together with other methods of distance communication, to enhance the Roman army's performance in responding to actual or threatened cross-border attacks or raids.
