Towards New Information Centric Networking Strategy Based On Software Defined Networking

Nowadays, distribution of content, such as video or P2P file sharing, holds the largest share of the Internet traffic. Indeed, the Information Centric Networking architecture (ICN), particularly the Named Data Networking (NDN), appears as a credible alternative to the current Internet model used to deliver content at very large-scale. However, the NDN architecture does not propose a default routing strategy and handles forwarding basically by a network flooding.In this paper, we introduce a Named Data Networking architecture based on Software defined networks (NDNS) to benefit from the advantages of both SDN and NDN. Our proposal relies on the decoupling of the data plane and control plane, to propose a routing strategy ensured by the controller. Moreover, our architecture defines a cache replacement policy, based on the statistical data, in the switch and enables the network management and control service definition. Through experimental tests, we evaluate the performance of our solution and we compare it to classical NDN.
