Solution methods for vehicle-based inventory routing problems.

•We study vehicle-based inventory routing problems subject to complex constraints.•We consider driver-related restrictions, customer access windows, and time-varying consumption.•We propose a dynamic preprocessing algorithm to reduce problem size.•A method for the generation of routes that meet specific criteria is proposed.•We develop a two-level decomposition solution method.•We show that industrial-size instances can be solved in reasonable time.
