Identifying intermediate-risk candidates for active surveillance of prostate cancer.

•A total of 144 patients with IR prostate cancer followed by active surveillance for a median of 4.5 years.•AS maintained in 50% of Intermediate-risk group at 5 years.•Treatment rates were significantly lower for VLR group compared to LR or IR group.•In the IR group, percentage of biopsy cores involved was an independent predictor of who would cease AS.
