paragine endopeptidase (AEP) cleaves human α-synuclein at Asn103, yielding a fragment with higher aggregation propensity than that of the full-length protein. Truncated α-synuclein is also more neurotoxic and leads to dopaminergic neuronal loss and motor impairments in mice.
