Optimal Multiband Cooperative Spectrum Sensing With Random Interruptions

Introducing random interruptions in the cooperation of the sensing nodes with the fusion center is a new approach to increase the efficiency of the centralized cooperative spectrum sensing in cognitive radio (CR) networks. In this paper, we extend this approach to the multiband cooperative spectrum sensing. Specifically, first, we formally show how to incorporate the random interruptions in a multiband joint detection scenario. Next, we formulate the system performance in terms of the aggregate opportunistic throughput of the CR network and the aggregate interference experienced by the primary users. Then, based on these metrics, we formulate the system performance optimization subject to a constraint on the energy and signal processing resources consumed in the multiband cooperative sensing. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and optimization via computer simulations.
