摘要
Traditional traffic control systems using sensors is associated with the problems of maintenance, limited information, and, non-real time data. Vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication has eliminated most of the above problems. With the advent of SAE J2735 standard and IntelliDriveSM, more real time as well as vehicle specific information is available to a traffic signal controller. Two such pieces of information (vehicle occupancy and the engine capacity) are expected to be supported by the standard. The new technology enables periodical collection of approaching vehicles' data within the communication range. This paper involves development and evaluation of adaptive traffic signal control algorithms utilizing those data elements. Main objective of designing adaptive traffic signal control is to optimize appropriate metric at an intersection. The paper presents design of such algorithms and results of their simulation. Simulation reveals that adaptive algorithms perform better (about 2.5%) than the normal algorithm in optimizing a metric.
