•An adjacent evaluation window is constructed to modify threshold scheme of LBP.•The adjacent evaluation derives two new descriptors: AECLBP and AELTP.•The adjacent evaluation plays an important role in solving sensitivity to noise.•The proposed approaches are experimented on five texture databases.
