Driving the need to feed: Insight into the collaborative interaction between ghrelin and endocannabinoid systems in modulating brain reward systems.

•Ghrelin and endocannabinoid systems both drive feeding.•Feeding processes following activation of either system is reliant on each other.•The VTA is an important extra-hypothalamic region that drives feeding behaviours.•Promotion of ghrelin and endocannabinoid systems within the VTA stimulates feeding.•We propose that these systems work together in the VTA to encourage feeding.
