Age-related changes in nitrogen resorption and use efficiency in the perennial new crop Physaria mendocina (Brassicaceae)

•Older plants showed higher nitrogen use efficiency in Physaria mendocina.•Resorption efficiency did not change with age.•Proficiency was the main factor explaining changes in nitrogen use efficiency.•These findings aid in identifying useful traits for perennial crop domestication.
