Tu1393 Placement of Self Expandable Metal Stent (SEMS) in Esophageal Cancer: Potential for Complications and Reinterventions Without Improvement in Nutritional Status

Self-Expandable Metal Stent (SEMS) are used as palliative therapy for locally advanced or metastatic esophageal cancer. To date, there is no consensus on optimal timing of stent placement and nutritional improvement has not yet been demonstrated. Furthermore, SEMS placement is not without risk of complications and need for reinterventions. Our aim was to report a tertiary referral center's experience with SEMS for esophageal cancer, and assess the rate of complications, need for reinterventions, and the effect on nutritional status.
