Organic light-emitting diodes fabricated on recessed anodes for light extraction enhancement

•Enhanced light extraction using recessed ITO has led to efficiency improvement of OLEDs up to 16%.•The enhanced light extraction is due to recess wall effect.•Efficiency is limited by high electrical resistivity at high recess depth and coverage ratio.•ASAP optical simulation proved the effect of recess on the enhanced light extraction.
