The Growth Mechanism of MgO in the ZnO Coated Mg2B2O5 Whisker Reinforced AZ31B Composite

In this paper, the growth mechanical of MgO in the casting ZnO coated Mg2B2O5 whisker reinforced AZ31B composite. The microstructures of MgO are observed by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The crystallographic orientation relationship between the Mg2B2O5 and MgO in the casting ZnO coated Mg2B2O5 whisker reinforced AZ31B composite is investigated to be [010](Mg2B2O5) // [011](MgO) and (102)(Mg2B2O5)//((1) over bar (1) over bar1)(MgO). The formation of intermetallic MgZn2 was discussed.
