Investigation of the properties of punchthrough showers induced by 70-GeV protons in a steel absorber

摘要
The total punchthrough probability and the spatial properties of showers induced by 70-GeV protons in a steel absorber have been measured at a depth between 1.5 and 3.0 m, The measurements have been performed by using large-area scintillation counters. The experimental data from these measurements have been compared with the results of calculations based on the GEANT 3.21 code employing the GHEISHA and FLUKA generators to simulate hadron-nucleus interactions.
