•We developed a phenomena identification ranking table (PIRT) for SBO transients.•The rank of the importance and the knowledge level were determined.•The present PIRT will be used to make strategy for performing a ATLAS SBO test.•This ATLAS SBO test will be performed in the framework of the OECD-ATLAS project.
